The Bonneville Salt Flats are home to
international land speed record attempts. As a child reading car magazines,
I would drool at the sight of the streamliners and motorcycles and wished I
could see them in person. Those dreams came true when I attended the World
of Speed competitions in 2008 and 2009. For anyone who loves high
performance vehicles, Bonneville is the Mecca for Motorheads.
Top Fuel funny cars and dragsters are absolutely amazing. On a track just
1,000 feet long they hit top speeds of 300 mph in just 4 seconds. There's
nothing else like it. Look and listen for yourself.
The video on the left is a 10-second flyby showing stable turns and a quick
wave. Click on the photo to watch the 1.5 meg footage. The video on the
right is assembled from a variety of pieces and even features music. The
one-minute footage also has music and is 16 megs in size. Click on the photo
