How It Works: Adjustable Trail
The fork is a two-piece assembly, allowing the trail
distance to be set independently of the rake angle. A pre-drilled steel link
holds the pieces at the correct angle for any given trail dimension. I
created links for each dimension needed, which allows for easy, accurate,
and repeatable changes during testing.
The above drawing and photos show two configurations,
both with a rake angle of forty degrees, but the trail varies from two
inches to five inches. In the drawing, a red stripe represents the link and
you can see how the length of the link changes the amount of trail.
