ProjectVF: Shifting Gears in a Semi-Enclosed Recumbent

Back to the Design Goals page
Auto designers add a "dead pedal" to most cars to give the driver someplace to rest their foot when not using the clutch or brake. I'm looking for the same level of comfort with my vehicle. The sketches below outline the basic needs for pedal shifting and several different designs, with the intent of being able to rest your foot while cruising, but still being able to brace yourself during downshifts or braking. It's small details that make a vehicle like this practical in day-to-day life. Click on either sketch to see a readable version.
