ProjectVF: Modifying the Acura Seat

Back to the Design Goals page
After digging thru some local salvage yards, I found a passenger-side seat from a late-90s Honda Acura. Passenger side was important because that seat is usually less worn. It came with the tilt/adjust mechanism, and the back and seat have nice, deep bolsters. Unfortunately, the base is too long, intended for thigh support for a driver, and interferes with my expected riding position. It was easy enough to unhook the upholstery and peel the foam away from the stamped steel pan. A little measuring, a little marking, and a lot of noise from the SawzAll took care of trimming the pan and a cheap serrated knife handled the foam. When I get the upholstery redone, I'll let them smooth the foam. For now the excess fabric is just tucked underneath and secured with hog rings.
