ProjectVF: Motor Rebuild and Cam Oiling Modifications:

Back to the Design Goals page
When I bought my first donor Interceptor, I fully expected the motor to be whipped. Worse, Interceptors suffered from cam oiling problems, and the donor was no exception. Aftermarket kits are available to correct the lubrication problem, and getting the engine rebuilt is just a matter of money. Compared with the expected overall cost of the vehicle, the rebuild is just a small sting to ensure years of trouble-free enjoyment. The clustered carbs makes supercharging an interesting option, but it'll have to wait.

At left is the motor from my first donor. At right is one of the camshafts. The damage is easy to see. With luck, the cams in the second donor will be better because new cams aren't available.
