After a lot of driving around, looking for steeper hills. I ended up settling on one with a run shorter than I liked, but safe enough to not worry about cars or trucks. There was a parking lot at the top where I could change settings, plus a nice run out at the bottom.
Having tried all of my combinations, I narrowed them down in the last few tests to the combinations I felt offered the most potential, but for the first time I wanted something new. The settings I seemed to like best were either 20-30 degrees with a medium amount of trail, about 3.5", so I decided to drill a new hole in the Indexer and added a new hole on one of the Links and now I could try a compromise setting of 25° rake and 3.5" of trail
Early on a Saturday morning I made five runs, all undocumented. My top speed for each run was 26 mph, but it was enough to start feeling the effects of counter-steering. Just as important, I liked how the Test Mule responded. It felt good. It turned easily enough, yet didn't try to dive, and straightening out was nearly effortless. This is highly ironic considering the stock Interceptor steering geometry was 27.6° with 4.5" of trail. I began my design with a low, chopper setting yet in the end I liked geometry steeper and sharper than the original sportbike.
